Making Tax Digital is a key part of the government’s plans to make it easier for individuals and businesses to get their tax right and keep on top of their affairs.

If you have a VAT registered business, you are now required to keep digital records and file your tax returns using compatible software.

Instructions to Open and Use the VAT Template

  1. Download the File: Make sure the file is downloaded but don’t open it immediately.

  2. Go to Downloads: Open File Explorer, navigate to Downloads, and locate the MTD VAT.xlsm file.

  3. Unblock the File:

    1. Right-click on the MTD VAT.xlsm file and select Properties.

    2. In the Properties window, look for the Unblock checkbox near the bottom.

    3. Tick Unblock, then click Apply and OK.

  4. Open the File: Double-click the file to open it in Excel. You may need to Enable Content to run the macros.
